It’s a region rich in magnificent landscapes and varied activities. Whether you’re discovering nature on one of the many footpaths, having fun or exercising on one of the many water sports, or strolling along the water’s edge in one of the wine-tasting cabins, you’re bound to find something to do not far from the campsite.
Sports and water activities on the Arcachon basin
The basin is a destination of choice for lovers of sports and other water activities. There are plenty of sporting activities within easy reach of the campsite. You can canoe, kayak, paddle or sail from Arès, thanks to the Club Nautique d’Arès, located right next to the campsite. These activities allow you to discover the basin in a different way, on the water, observing the wildlife and typical landscapes.
On the ocean side, Grand Crohot beach is a renowned surfing spot, accessible by car or bike via the cycle paths. Several surf schools offer courses for all levels. Boat trips are also a must on the Arcachon Basin: they take you to Ile aux Oiseaux (and, in passing, to admire the unmissable cabanes tchanquées), the Banc d’Arguin or toadmire the Dune du Pilat from the sea.
Outdoor activities: hiking, walking and cycling
Nature lovers will appreciate the many hikes and walks accessible from the campsite. Coastal paths, pine forests and natural areas such as the Prés Salés d’Arès-Lège offer a variety of routes to suit all levels. The secure network of cycle paths makes it easy to reach Andernos-les-Bains, Lège-Cap-Ferret or the ocean beaches.
Cycling is one of the best ways to discover the landscapes of the basin at your own pace. From Arès, everything can be done without a car, in line with a gentle, environmentally-friendly approach.
Family activities and leisure accessible to all
Activities around the campsite are also ideal for families. In summer, the Cap 33 program in Arès offers a wide range of free sports activities for young and old. The shallow beaches of the basin are ideal for swimming in complete tranquillity, particularly at Saint-Brice or on the beach at Arès.
Playgrounds, markets, summer entertainment and cultural events give rhythm to local life, and allow you to share convivial moments in a typically Basin atmosphere.
Local gastronomy and gourmet pleasures around the campsite
It’s impossible to talk about activities in the region without mentioning the gastronomy of the Arcachon Basin. Just a few minutes from the campsite, the oyster-farming huts in Arès and neighbouring towns invite you to sample oysters, shrimps and seafood, right on the water’s edge. The local markets, accessible on foot or by bike, are perfect for discovering regional specialities and fresh produce.
Restaurants, oyster ports and oyster bars are all part of the Basin experience.
